ٱلْجَامِعُ
The One who gathers, unites, and brings together what is scattered- in perfect harmony, at the perfect time.
Meaning & Linguistic Roots
Derived from the root ج-م-ع (jīm-mīm-‘ayn), Al-Jāmi‘ carries the meanings of assembling, uniting, collecting, and harmonizing. It reflects Allah’s power to gather:
- Bodies and souls
- Hearts and beliefs
- People and purposes
- Truth and its witnesses
- All of creation on the Day of Judgment
But beyond mere bringing together, Al-Jāmi‘ denotes a gathering that is intentional, wise, and sacred.
Qur’anic References
Though Al-Jāmi‘ is not listed among the 99 Names in any one verse, its essence is described multiple times in the Qur’an.
رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ ٱلنَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍۢ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ
“Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt.”
— Surah Al-‘Imran (3:9)
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ جَامِعُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا
“Indeed, Allah will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers in Hell altogether.”
— Surah An-Nisa (4:140)
لِيَجْزِيَ ٱللَّهُ كُلَّ نَفْسٍۢ مَّا كَسَبَتْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
“So that Allah may recompense every soul for what it has earned. Indeed, Allah is swift in account.”

Allah is Al-Jāmi‘:

In this life, we often feel fragmented — by stress, loss, loneliness, or uncertainty. But Al-Jāmi‘ promises:
Nothing is truly lost. Everything will be gathered — in its time.
A Story: The Day of Gathering
The Prophet ﷺ once said:
“You will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection, barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised.”
(Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
People asked in amazement how all could be gathered. He replied with calm certainty that the One who created us the first time will gather us again — effortlessly.
Imagine it:
- Every prophet, every martyr, every soul…
- All human beings — kings and beggars —
- Standing on one vast plain, awaiting the call of Al-Jāmi‘.
It is a scene of awe. A reminder that justice delayed is never justice forgotten.

Yā Jāmi‘ —
Gather my scattered thoughts, my weary heart, and my broken dreams.
Unite me with those I love in goodness.
Gather my deeds with sincerity, and gather me with the righteous on the Day of Meeting.
